This program comprises of
agriculture, veterinary, agro-forestry and emergency relief project.
There is since 1995 a veterinary program in the pastoralist
Eastern part; in the Western part there is an agricultural program.
A demonstration farm was established in Kuron. An agro forestry
project promotes small tree nurseries and the introduction of new
varieties all over the diocese.
Community Empowerment.
This department is more recent and was established as a separate
entity in 2000. It aims at creating awareness about a wide variety
of cross-cutting issues: gender, HIV/AIDS, self-reliance, leadership
training etc.
Justice and Peace.
Mediating in local conflicts has been a traditional activity of the
Catholic Diocese of Torit through its Justice and Peace Commission.
Through it, the diocese initiates and follows up reconciliation
meetings and peace building among communities in conflict. It also
supports socio-economic activities that such meetings themselves
recommend. The department also deals with civic education (e.g.
related to the CPA). There are other related activities such as
peace education (with CRS) and the establishment of a peace village
in Kuron.
